DJ to return after fake phone calls

DJ Liz Kershaw will return to BBC 6 Music this weekend, for the first time since her show was found to have faked competition winners.

Kershaw will once again present a Saturday music programme, although it will be an hour shorter and in a different timeslot.

As with all BBC output currently on air, it will not feature phone-in competitions.

The Liz Kershaw Show was one of six named and shamed in July for faking the results of its competitions.

During 2005-2006, programmes were pre-recorded but presented as if they were live. "Competition winners" were actually members of the production team and their friends.

The programme was taken off air when the rigged contests were made public. Its producer, Leona McCambridge, was subsequently sacked.

But Kershaw, sister of fellow DJ Andy Kershaw, continued to work on local BBC radio and is now being welcomed back to 6 Music.

Kershaw has admitted being part of the fake guest "charade".

She said in July when the scandal broke: "I did feel uncomfortable about it at the time, but I didn't do anything about it. I'd like to apologise to the licence payers who pay my wages unreservedly... for being a coward. I'd like to say sorry for being part of a charade."

Her new show will be aired from noon to 2pm.
